Music Trip - Years 4 & 5
Years 4 and 5 went to Southbank Royal Festival Hall for the fascinating workshop ‘Pipe Up’. Pupils learnt about the history of the Hall as well as the extraordinary 27 metre wide organ. From looking at the different woods and metals used to create the 7866 pipes which make up this impressive instrument to being able to go behind the scenes and see the “lungs” of the organ, it truly was a once in a lifetime trip. Pupils were then able to play a few notes on the organ itself, here Syn Foh is playing the Festival Hall for the first time! With three keyboards, a foot keyboard and the hundreds of different stops, it was easy to see why this is one of the hardest instruments to learn. When we returned from the Southbank, the teachers organised a round-robin trio of activities in Walpole Park for the three groups: a drawing session and discussion focussing on the importance of trees in our world, a nature walk and a trip to the playground. Pupils and teachers all had a great time!
